Frequently Asked Questions
How long have you been a DJ? I have been a DJ since 1998. I started my freshman year of high school doing dances and parties.

What type of equipment do you use? MI Event DJs only use top of the line professional DJ equipment. We try to stay current with gear from brands such as Pioneer DJ, Native-Instruments, EV, Chauvet DJ & ADJ to name a few.

Do you have any backup plans if something goes wrong? MI Event DJs always has back up gear (including a tablet with the latest hits, plus top songs from the decades)

Will the DJ play requests? We will only take requests if you allow it. If allowed, we do our best to filter requests, meaning we will not play a song that you specifically asked us not to play or music from a genre you asked us not to play. If someone makes a request that fits in well with what we are playing at the time and with the music you want, then the we will try our best to play it.

Can we request songs for the DJ to play? You are able to pick which songs you definitely want to hear, and ones you do not want to hear, for your event. This can be done with our easy to use online planning forms.

Can we provide our own music for the DJ to play? Sure, but we would like to get the music file(s) in advance of the event. If doing this, please consider the audience attending your event.

Can we visit you at an event? Out of respect and privacy for others on their big day, MI Event DJs does not allow prospective clients to visit us at other events. We offer references if requested as well as online reviews and are always welcome to one-on-one meetings in our office or at a location of your choosing. We also have a few videos on youtube

What are your payment terms? The deposit (amount depends on package selected) is required at the time of booking and the remaining balance is due one week prior to the event date. Payments can be made through our online planning system using a debit or credit card or cash at one of our meetings.

Do I tip the DJ? We do not include gratuity in the final contract price. 10-20% is generally recommended if your DJ did a great job, but it is entirely up to you. We do accept credit cards via secure square payments and are able to accept tips or additional payments at or after the event.

Will the DJ play overtime if needed? Yes, We are able to play past the contracted time, but payment is due before the overtime will begin. Payments can be made via secure square payments with credit/debit card or cash.

When should we book a DJ? A good time frame is at least six to twelve months out for a wedding. Less for other events. However, we do not mind last minute bookings.

Should we feed the DJ? This is not required in our contract and is completely up to you. Typically, the catering director or event coordinator will set aside a meal or boxed dinner for the DJ if requested by the client. Please do not feel obligated to do so!

What other services do you offer? We offer ceremony audio, lighting (uplighting & dance floor lighting), and photo booths.

How many songs should I request? We would like for you to give your DJ 15-20 songs of different genres and artists you would like to hear, as well as a few songs/artists you don’t, so your DJ has an idea of what music you’d like for the different parts of the event.
